October 10th, 2007 (noon) | Leavitt Center for Politics and Public Policy Forum, SUU Cedar City, Utah
Even though the book isn't much on matters of public policy, I've been asked to present. So, I'll be reading and talking about small publishing and the long tail and the presentation of diverse voices in regard to religion and culture.

April 2007 | Northern Arizona Book Festival, Flagstaff, Arizona
recap The reading was a success. It was held in the Orpheum Theater in downtown Flagstaff. I met Daniel Handler, who is a swell chap. You might know him better as Lemony Snicket, author of the Roald Dahl-esque series of children's books. He is a fine comic novelist in his own right, and a good conversationalist. Billy Collins was there, too. And though Bill and I didn't hang much, we did meet and he was a very generous individual.
I gave a solid reading, and the stories played well. Handler bought a copy and wrote an e-mail to me later saying the book "is honest and true and full of good sentences." Can't ask for better than that. -
September 13, 2006 | City Arts Reading, Main Library, 7:00, Salt Lake City, Utah
recap The reading was pretty successful. I read with another creative writing professor in my department. I read "Saved," "Proselytizing," and "The Charity of Silence." I was interrupted by an interesting man, who wanted to comment on "The Charity of Silence." He was gently dismissed from the reading, which was a first for me, but I gather, common at the library. I'll have audio excerpt of his outburst available soon, along with an mp3 of the whole reading.
